Summary: The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing (DON) in managing the nursing department, ensuring high-quality care, and maintaining regulatory compliance. They supervise nursing staff, handle scheduling, assist with daily clinical operations, and implement policies to ensure patient safety
Responsibilities/Accountabilities
We have an amazing opportunity for an Assistant Director of Nursing who can:
- Back-up for the Director of Nursing in all responsibilities and duties in her absence.
- Assists the Director of Nursing in recruiting and selecting nursing service personnel.
- Coordinates the Pain Management Program, fall team, and infection control.
- Coordinates the Wound Team and Quality Assurance Process.
- On-call responsibilities, including providing weekend coverage.
- Develops, implements, and maintains an effective orientation program that orients the new employee to the facility, its policies and procedures, and his/her job position and duties.
- Makes daily rounds of the nursing service department to ensure that all nursing service personnel perform their work assignments according to acceptable nursing standards. Reports findings to the Director of Nursing and Clinical Services.
- Coordinates the three-unit managers in meeting all continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Evaluates care systems and research and recommends necessary changes to improve resident outcomes.
Related Duties and Responsibilities:
● Current unencumbered RN (preferred) license through college, associate degree, or three-year diploma school. BSN is preferred.
● At least 3 years of experience as a ADON, preferably in long-term care and/or rehabilitative/restorative nursing
● Adult CPR (current certification) and IV Therapy certificates
Point-Click Care (PCC) Experience
- Coordinates and assures accuracy of POS’s on a monthly (staggered) basis.
- Monitors falls and makes recommendations for improvement.
- Recommends staff development programs.
- Assists the Director of Nursing in preparing performance evaluations as directed.
- Has a complete understanding of the care planning process.
- Oversees and coordinates the Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives in the Nursing Department.
- Oversees and coordinates QAPI initiatives in the Nursing Department and training/education for all staff.
- Oversees compliance with Nursing Center regulations as related to the Nursing Department.
- Directs the planning, scheduling, and conducting of orientation programs for newly hired nursing personnel.
- Ensures compliance with all licensure regulations and organizational standards for training and orientation in the Nursing Department.
- Serves as a resource and trainer for the general orientation program on gerontological and chronic care issues.
- Identifies needs in the organization for education in resident care-related areas.
- Directs the QI plan for the Nursing Department.
- Assesses level of compliance and implements steps needed to meet standards.
- Co-chair of the facility QI program
- Participates in in-service projects or committees as assigned.
- Maintains all certifications necessary for employment.
- Demonstrates flexibility, open-mindedness, and versatility in adjusting to changing environments and requirements as necessary.
- Commits to continually improving his/her skills through participation in educational opportunities, whether offered on the job, within, or outside the facility, to increase knowledge of work-related issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
● Oversee staffing, including interviewing, hiring, and training
● Collaborate the development of policies and guidelines for the nursing assistant training program
● Investigate and respond to resident and family concerns
● Develop policies and guidelines for a geriatric nursing assistant training program
● Oversee ordering and care of supplies and equipment
● Complete required forms, reports, evaluations, and studies
● Ensure compliance with policies and procedures for personnel, residents, and visitors
● Maintain and update written policies and procedures
● Participate in surveys, inspections, in-service classes, and meetings
● Participate in Nursing Administration on-call rotation

Education and Experience:
§ Three – Five years experience in a long-term care facility as a DON or ADON. Rehabilitative and restorative nursing skills are preferred.
§ Knowledge and experience related to the physical and emotional needs of disabled adults and the elderly.
§ Knowledge of the laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing homes.
§ Computer skills – Microsoft 365 - Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
