We have an amazing opportunity for a Senior Accountant. You'll report to the Controller and will partner with him/her to maximize the nursing center's financial performance through various business activities.
SUMMARY: The Senior Accountant will analyze financial information and prepare financial reports to determine or maintain record of assets and liabilities, profit and loss, tax liability, or other financial activities within the organization.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must possess excellent organizational, written, presentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to understand and relate to concepts behind specific ideas and theories as they relate to general accounting or bookkeeping principles.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before residents, visitors, management and co-workers.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the general public.
- Excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to complete a task or project.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a bachelor’s degree in business with emphasis in accounting is required, CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting is required.
- Detail oriented with high level of attention to financial accuracy.
- Highly skilled in dealing with financial and numeric data.
- Highly skilled in use of Excel spreadsheets and other accounting software.
- Not-for-profit and healthcare experience preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Prepares, examines, or analyzes accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Monitor and ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities with actionable financial insights
- Manage fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules
- Uses judgment to determine appropriate accounts and assigns entries accordingly.
- Develops, implements, modifies, and documents recordkeeping and accounting systems making use of current computer technology.
- Determines and develops surveys to ascertain accounting needs and recommends solutions to improve accounting operations and business processing.
- Coordinates monthly financial closing and analyzes income-related accounts for reasonableness to provide financial reports to division and corporate management.
- Communicates with internal departments to determine and compile financial data to satisfy corporate consolidation and departmental reporting requirements.
- Performs monthly cash reconciliations and balance sheet accounts analysis to ensure accuracy.
- Determines appropriate adjustments to ensure that financial statements are presented fairly.
- Assists auditors in the preparation of audit work papers.
- Compiles financial data for corporate tax reporting to comply with federal and state government requirements.
- Mentor junior accounting staff and review their work for quality and completeness
- Performs other duties as assigned or required

- Plans and completes duties with minimal direction from supervisor.
Responsibility in an Emergency:
All employees are expected to respond to emergency situations involving the safety of residents, other employees and the physical plant. This includes the ability to assist with a possible evacuation of residents.
